Synopsis
The Internet offers artists great ability to communicate with an audience, to showcase their work and develop their career networks. Many artists who work within traditional media, paint, wood, stone, textiles, drawing, may consciously have bypassed the computer as a medium. For others the challenge of learning the software might seem daunting. Indeed the myth of the web is hard to separate from the reality. This class is designed so that hopefully a beginning student with little or no experience of web site design can be guided through the process of building a web site from scratch. Students will create a portfolio that showcases their artwork. As the class proceeds students will learn step-by-step processes with Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Students will learn how to design graphics and navigation elements, layout and link their pages and launch, test, debug and promote their web sites. Students will be encouraged to buy their own domain name (i.e. www.yourname.com) and server space, so that the finished product of ten weeks will be available and fully functional on the Internet.
